Anna Mangus

Credentials: B.S. & M.S. Chemical Engineering
Arizona State University

Position title: GRADUATE STUDENT, CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL ENGINEERING

Research areas: Protein engineering, transporter proteins, bioproduct toxicity

My research focuses on developing strategies to overcome the toxicity of the products we engineer our organisms to produce. Specifically, I am using protein engineering techniques (deep mutational scanning, high throughput selections) to build transporter proteins that better export toxic products from the cell.

I completed my BSE and MS in Chemical Engineering at Arizona State University with Dr. Cesar Torres. My work primarily focused on using a variety of microscopy methods to study the respiratory structures of the electroactive bacterium Geobacter sulfurreducens.

Outside of the lab I’m usually doing one of my various grandma activities – crafting, baking, gardening, or long strolls by the lake, just to name a few.

My favorite punctuation mark is the Oxford comma, and not just because the Vampire Weekend song is really good.
